Four motley bandits from Kent, Ohio, a town better known for inspiring a Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young song than for the many wonderful bands it has produced. Beaten Awake make very fine music. Their first album, Let's Get Simplified, is about friendship, love, regret, missed chances, and holding onto the moment. Oh, and the Cleveland Browns. And the Cleveland Indians. And being drunk. Drunk at an Indians game. Getting kicked out for screaming "Travis Hafner slept with my wife!" on the day when all the Cub Scouts get in for free if they wear their merit badges. Yikes. Well, OK, that never happened. But I wouldn't put it past them. |
